About the Ping G440 HL MAX Fairway Wood
The Ping G440 HL MAX is the High Launch version of Ping's G440 Max fairway wood, built specifically for golfers with slower swing speeds who need help getting the ball up and carrying farther. It uses a lighter backweight, the ultralight Ping Alta Quick shaft, and a Lamkin UTx Lite grip to reduce overall club weight, making it easier to generate speed without swinging harder. It is available in five loft options from 15 to 24 degrees.
The G440 Max platform underneath is one of the strongest fairway wood designs in 2025. Ping's Free Hosel technology removes 11.5 grams from the hosel and heel section, allowing engineers to build a face that is 7 percent taller than the previous generation while keeping the center of gravity low. That taller face is a real confidence booster at address, particularly off the tee. The Carbonfly Wrap carbon crown further reduces high-mass weight and pushes it lower in the head for higher launch and better forgiveness.
The maraging steel face is designed to flex more efficiently at lower impact speeds, which pairs well with the HL build's lighter overall weight. The contoured sole helps the club glide through turf from a variety of lies without digging. In testing, the G440 Max platform produced consistently fast ball speeds and tight dispersion, making it one of the most forgiving fairway woods available. The HL build makes that performance accessible to players who do not swing fast enough to take full advantage of the standard-weight version.
