About the Ping G440 HL SFT Fairway Wood
The Ping G440 HL SFT Fairway Wood combines two of Ping's specialty configurations — High Launch (HL) and Straight Flight Technology (SFT) — into a single club aimed at golfers with slower swing speeds who also fight a slice. The HL build strips weight from the standard G440 through a lighter aluminum back weight, a lighter shaft (Ping Alta Quick), and a 41-gram Lamkin UTx Lite grip. Less total weight means more clubhead speed for players who need every bit of help generating distance.
The SFT side of the equation places the center of gravity in a draw-inducing position, so shots that would normally fade or slice get pulled back toward the target. Ping's Free Hosel design removes 11.5 grams from the hosel and adjusting screw, freeing that mass to be repositioned lower in the head. The result is a 4% taller face compared to previous generations, which adds confidence at address, while the low CG preserves high launch off the turf and the tee. The maraging steel face wrap flexes efficiently to maintain ball speed across the hitting area, and face thickness is tuned in the heel and toe regions to reduce speed loss on mishits.
The G440 HL SFT also includes Ping's Trajectory Tuning 2.0 hosel, allowing loft adjustments of plus or minus 1.5 degrees and up to 3 degrees flat from standard lie. This gives fitters and players room to dial in trajectory without changing shafts. It is a purpose-built club for a specific player — someone who needs lighter weight, higher launch, and slice correction all at once.
Key Technology & Features
- Free Hosel design saves 11.5g for redistribution to optimize CG placement
- SFT draw-biased CG location reduces slice tendency
- Maraging steel face wrap maintains ball speed across the hitting area
- Trajectory Tuning 2.0 hosel allows ±1.5° loft and up to 3° flat lie adjustment
- Carbonfly Wrap crown lowers CG for higher launch and added forgiveness
